I began my very first sculpture in Aug of 2008. I began a bit late in life, I am 52 years old. I live in Alva, Florida.
As A child I had a talent for drawing. I loved to draw animals. My favorite was horses. My grandfather, Theodore Roxbury was a painter. He did seascapes in oil. Known for his work in Mystic Isles N.J. My Grandmother, Ruth Roxbury also had a unique talent for oil painting. Unfortunately she only did one painting, but it was amazing. In New Jersey I would sit with my grandfather and draw while he painted. As a teenager I painted two animal scenes in acrylic. I also did a couple of portraits. I did not continue with art because I did not view it as a means to make money, "the starving artist" syndrome. Then life got in the way. Unfortunately, most of my artwork was lost due to frequent moves.
My inspiration was a very dear and marvelous friend, Jorge Arce Lara. He does so much for people asking nothing in return. I wanted to do something special for him on his 40th Birthday. We share a passion for horses and that is where it began. I researched the internet on how to begin sculpting. I have no previous experience or knowledge of sculpting. I approached another very good friend Lawrence Campbell, he makes Bronze Cannon, "Yes,the Shooting kind." He runs a Foundry in Homestead Florida, "Art South". He helped me make the Armateur and then I began. The sculpting was very natural to me, I was amazed. The hardest part was the "Lost Wax" bronzing technique. What a time consuming, expensive and difficult process. Thanks to Lawrences` guidance, patience, experience and skill, I was able to complete my sculpture.
Lawrence insisted I learn this process hands-on. So began the time consuming and hard work of "Lost Wax." I not only sculpted, I did the whole process, except for pouring the bronze. Very few Artists do their own Casts.
I am currently working on my second sculpture...Fighting horses. I hope you enjoy them and more importantly, want to buy them. All my sculptures are originals and limited edition, hand signed with a COA and Tag from Fine Arts Registry. They can be customized in choice of Patina and base and either solid or semi-solid bronze. They are done using the "LOST WAX" technique. I will only make 20 editions of each piece. They are cast of the finest bronze.
